I personally don't have a problem with CGI. It's just that it feels like it does the source material a disservice. The design is too simplistic. The style looks nothing like the manga. It probably wouldn't bother me as much, if they didn't title is Trigun and just give the characters different names. That being said, the CGI is the least of the show's problems. The writing feels off. Roberto's personality is all over the place. Meryl's personality is far too bubbly. The fight at the end looked visually good, but the logic of it didn't make any sense to me. His current gun, which uses .22 bullets, shouldn't have the impact it's suggesting, like the original's gun. Because of how puny the new gun is, I thought he was going to do something clever, like just shooting one of the fins of one of the missiles to cause a chain reaction, but in the end, it just felt lazy. The bad guy's weapon also didn't make any sense in general. The bad guy's personality also didn't make any sense. There was no setup for him to be a lunatic. I personally don't plan on watching any more of this after watching EP 1. The only positive I can think of is that it's better than Berserk 2016. Personally, I don't believe a big franchise should be CGI.
I absolutely loved it. And I think that the people saying it looks terrible are only doing so reflexively just because they can “tell” it’s cg. Regardless of the quality of the animation and show.
